This project profile was a commercial job we did in Estes Park in the Spring of 2017. They were building a parking garage and it had some timber accents. Project Location: Estes Park Colorado Builder: Heath Construction Architect: Michael Koch, Architect PC Project Structural Engineer: Walker Parking Consultants Timber Frame Structural Engineer: JVA Consulting Engineers Unlike the last project profile I wrote about, we had not worked with any of these outfits except for JVA. Again, everyone was great to work with.   We started out with a schematic drawing to bid the job.

After we were awarded the project we worked on the full set of shop drawings. You can see that design changes were made along the way. We added some knee braces and removed the steel cross bracing among other things. Here is the 3D model:

Here are the final printed shop drawings.

Here are some photos of the timbers getting unloaded

Here are photos of the install of the Porte Cochere timbers.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Timmerhus. They did a great job on the install. I have known them for a long time and have always held them in high regard.

Here are some shots of the final project. Cassandra Covotsos, one of the architects out of Michael Koch’s office took these beautiful photos.

One last thought on this project. Since it was funded with Federal dollars we had to comply with “Buy America” requirements. It’s not as simple as it sounds, especially for specialty contractors. We had to do a lot of research to find suppliers of our materials that met the criteria. If you have a project that needs to be “Buy America” compliant give us a call. This project forced us to get it dialed in.
